Sentinel Federal Credit Union Appoints Michael Goldy as Chief Financial Officer

Share:

Rapid City, S.D. – Sentinel Federal Credit Union is pleased to announce the appointment of Michael Goldy as Chief Financial Officer.

Michael brings more than 30 years of experience in credit union oversight and financial risk management, having served at the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) from 1991 through 2025. During his tenure, he held the role of Principal Examiner (CU-12) and served as a Subject Matter Examiner specializing in Asset Liability Management, with a focus on interest rate risk and liquidity risk, critical areas that support the long-term financial strength of credit unions.

The NCUA is an independent federal agency that regulates, supervises, and insures federally insured credit unions, like the role the FDIC plays for banks. In this role, Michael worked closely with credit unions to help ensure they operated safely, soundly, and in compliance with federal regulations while continuing to serve their members effectively.

While at NCUA, Michael participated in the assessment of low to moderate income credit unions throughout South Dakota, North Dakota, and across the United States. He also assisted in the credit union chartering process, supporting new credit unions as they established strong financial and regulatory foundations.

Michael holds a Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting from Eastern Montana College, now known as Montana State University Billings, where he graduated in 1990. He was a successful candidate of the CPA Exam in 1991.

“Michael’s depth of experience in financial oversight and risk management is an incredible asset for Sentinel,” said Dorothy Voorhees, CEO of Sentinel Federal Credit Union. “His understanding of the regulatory landscape, combined with his practical insight into how credit unions operate, will help strengthen our financial strategy and support our long-term commitment to our members.”

Outside of work, Michael is a proud father of three and the devoted owner of Frankie, the family dog. He enjoys dabbling in real estate and staying active at the YMCA.

Sentinel Federal Credit Union is excited to welcome Michael to the leadership team and looks forward to the experience and expertise he brings to the credit union.

“If you’re in the Rapid City area and you’re looking to drop the elbow off the top rope, Macho Man style, then look to Sentinel Federal Credit Union! Their customer service is off the hook and when you call you never get a robot or an automated answering machine! I don’t think I’ll trust another big bank with my money for as long as I live! By the way, I don’t even live in South Dakota!”

“I have been using Sentinel for almost 30 years, and my family has been just as long! I purposely make the extra drive to the Radar Hill Branch with Nate working there! Not only has he always been on the ball of my personal account, but my business account! He has resolved issues with other banks in a timely manner when he didn’t have to! Every time I go on he always has a smiling face and is easy to work with.”

“We have several credit unions that got lost in the mix during a move–our bad. However, out of all of those credit unions, SFCU went OUT OF THEIR WAY to ensure we knew our account was dormant and helped us through the process of getting the account back on track. They also refunded every fee taken for dormant status. After losing more money than I’d like to admit from other institutions, I cannot tell you how much I appreciate the customer service of Sentinel FCU.”
