Did you receive an important document letter?
Please Make Sure We Have Proof of Your Vehicle Insurance
Vehicle Insurance FAQs
Why am I receiving a letter about my vehicles insurance?
You received a notice because we have not received proof that your vehicle has the required insurance coverage, your coverage may have lapsed, or the documentation we received is incomplete. If you believe you received this notice in error, please submit your current proof of insurance so we can update our records.
What do I need to do if I have insurance?
If you already have insurance, please provide written proof as soon as possible.
Request a copy of your Declaration Page from your insurance agent. In many cases, you can also download your Declaration Page through your insurance copmany’s online customer portal. Please ensure that Sentinel Federal Credit Union is listed as the Loss Payee.
If you submit an insurance ID card instead of the Declarations Page, please note that it may not include all the required information. If additional details are needed, we will send you a follow-up request.
What do I need to do if I don't have insurance?
If you do not currently have insurance, you’ll need to obtain coverage for the vehicle financed through us as soon as possible.
Once your policy is active you can send proof of insurance using one of the contact methods listed above, or contact your insurance agent to complete this on your behalf. Please ensure that Sentinel Federal Credit Union is listed as Loss Payee on your policy, and that coverages meet our minimum requirements.
What is the required coverage per the loan stipulations?
Under the terms of your loan agreement, you are required to maintain the following insurance coverage for the entire term of the loan:
- Comprehensive Coverage with a maximum deductible of $1,000.
- Collision Coverage with a maximum deductible of $1,000.
- Sentinel Federal Credit Union listed as the Loss Payee on your policy.
Maintaining this coverage helps protect both you and the collateral securing your loan.
Where do I send my proof of coverage?
Please submit your proof of insurance using ONE of the following methods:
- Email: coverage@idohaveinsurance.com
- Online: idohaveinsurance.zendesk.com
- Mail: Sentinel FCU at 4123 W 57th St Unit #2404 Sioux Falls, SD 57108
What happens if I don't provide proof of insurance?
If we do not receive proof that the required insurance coverage is in place, CPI may be added to your loan in accordance with your loan agreement. The cost of CPI will be added to your loan balance, and your monthly payment will be increased accordingly.
Will CPI replace my personal auto insurance?
No, CPI is not a substitute for personal auto insurance. CPI only protects the credit union’s interest in the vehicle and does not provide liability coverage, medical payments, uninsured motorist coverage, or protection for your personal losses.
Can CPI be removed?
Yes. If you provide proof that you maintained the required insurance coverage during the period of time in question, we will review your documentation. If the coverage meets the loan requirements, any eligible CPI charges will be removed, and your monthly payment will be decreased accordingly.
How long does it take to process my insurance documents?
Please allow 5-7 business days from the time your information is submitted to see the changes reflected on your loan account.
Who can I contact if I have questions?
If you have questions about your insurance requirements or need help submitting documentation, please contact us at 605-923-1405 or stop by any Sentinel Federal Credit Union branch and we will be happy to assist you.
