You’ve heard the news, right? Northern Hills Federal Credit Union and Sentinel Federal Credit Union are Moving Forward Together. We’ve been proudly serving our members since 1950 and 1955 respectively. And we’re going to continue to do so – together. That’s good for you!
A shared culture.
Both credit unions share a culture guided by service. Because we’re so focused on our members, we’re able to combine our vision, our experience, and our resources to benefit you and the communities we serve.
With the merger, you can expect more branches (11 to be exact!), more growth, and more community involvement. Plus, with a stronger combined asset and capital base, we’ll be able to keep rates on our products and services low. It’s a win-win-win-win.
Business as usual.
Because both credit unions use the same operating system, any interruptions in how we work with you will be minimal during the transition. Things that will stay the same for now include:
• Staff • Branches • Account and routing numbers • Online access • Direct deposits • Automatic payments
Both credit unions share a culture that is guided by service to our members. With our member-centric focus, we bring together two like-minded credit unions. A merger allows two healthy credit unions to combine their vision, experience, and resources for the benefit of the membership, employees, and community.
How will this partnership benefit Northern Hills FCU and Sentinel FCU members?
The opportunity to combine operational resources and talent will enable these two strong regional credit unions to expand their branch networks. A strong combined asset and capital base will assist in keeping rates on financial products and services low, position the credit union for continued growth, and deepen community involvement.
Is this partnership a good fit?
We believe that this partnership is a great fit! We share a common bond and commitment to our members, our employees and our communities. Led by our strong core values, together we also firmly believe in the importance of taking care of our members. It is our mission to do so.
Will the credit union’s name change?
Yes. All current members will come together under a new name and brand that will be announced at a later date.
What is the timeline for the merger?
Each credit union will continue the due diligence process while obtaining regulatory approval from the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA). Once we receive regulatory approval, the process of obtaining Sentinel Federal Credit Union member approval will begin and is expected to occur in the latter half of 2022. That is step one. Step two is the consolidation of membership within our system. Both credit unions utilize the same operating system, so there should be limited interruptions.
Will the employees I know and appreciate still be a part of the combined credit union?
Absolutely! You will continue to work with the same friendly credit union team members that you have come to know and enjoy! In fact, a potential merger of this size creates a tremendous amount of opportunity for existing employees to expand their career options in the future.
Will my account numbers change? What about my online access?
No, at this time, your member number and online access will remain the same. Throughout this process, in the event that your member or account numbers have to change, you will be notified well in advance, and we will assist you every step of the way.
What about my debit card, direct deposit, automatic payments or the routing number?
Again, at this time, it is business as usual, and everything will continue to work as it has. We are committed to make any transition as seamless as possible so you will continue to enjoy uninterrupted access to your money.
Will there be any branch closures?
No. There is very little overlap between Northern Hills FCU and Sentinel FCU, so upon completion of the merger, members of the combined organization will have access to over 11 branches in western South Dakota.
Can I start using Northern Hills FCU/Sentinel FCU branches?
Both Northern Hills FCU and Sentinel FCU participate in a shared branching network that allows members of those participating credit unions to perform some transactions at another participating credit union’s branch.
What about ATMs?
Both Northern Hills FCU and Sentinel FCU are members of the CO-OP surcharge-free ATM network, and members will have access to more than 30,000 surcharge-free ATMs worldwide.
